This is the latest tale of travelling adventure, for previous logs visit the archives. If you are new to Bad Latitude and wish to get a better idea of the whole adventure then it is best to start at the very beginning. The logs are updated when we get the chance, due to the erratic nature of sailing it is difficult to know exactly when we will be able to update the site, so for this reason we have the update alerter which will inform of any update via e-mail.

Issue 2 - 18/02/01 Weybridge, UK

Well the first tough task of this adventure is well and truly underway. We've found ourselves somewhere to live that's cheap and will enable us to save money very quickly before our departure, and saddest of all my car is up for sale. Its proving difficult to decide what to do with the website as we are still undecided as to exactly what we are going to do. Jon is still undecided about the trip, and is not committing either way, but we still have plenty of options; We could buy a smaller yacht and hire a skipper to sail from Greece back to the UK. We could also seek out crewing opportunities on the Internet, this would be good as we could gain excellent experience for if and when we buy our own yacht to go cruising on. The last option is to fly to somewhere where lots of cruising yachts pass through and blag our way aboard a boat. Though I`m worried that this may take time and therefore be expensive.....

For Sale.....
Nkhwazi

Our initial Internet enquiries have been very positive. We have been offered berths on Hans Clemensen's boat Seagoon, cruising around the Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea, and aboard Nkhwazi - a 50 foot Ketch - with Pete and Norma sailing from Darwin to Brisbane in Australia. We decided to try and hook up with Pete for the sail around Oz as the voyage ties in nicely with our timing, and will mainly be coastal day sailing which will hopefully break us in gently! We aim to meet up with Pete and Norma in June/July. That's the beauty of the proposed adventure and this website, we don't know what will happen next so If anyone knows of any future crewing opportunities then please let us know; crew@badlatitude.com

In the meantime though we need to learn to sail! We have decided to do this at the Ocean Sailing Academy in Durban South Africa, the weak Rand combined with free Virgin Atlantic flights to Jo'berg equals one very nice Springtime sailing/surf break - fantastic! We will be doing the Competent Crew / Day Skipper courses and I will hopefully get a chance to surf the famous breaks in Durban.....the famous North Beach and Bay of Plenty spring to mind! The next update will be in April where we will have collected loads of photos and video from Durban to populate the website until our adventure starts proper.
